March 2010 saw the Invictus Legion visit St James' C of E, Ashton and what a fantastic sight they were as the Wolves of Rome marched, eagle's raised, through Daisy Nook to Ashton. Paul also followed in his van to carry the 8 boxes of artifacts and weapons. The legion surrounded the school and stood guard throughout the day, just hidden out of sight so as not to cause alarm.

Timelines, Boudica, weapons and medicine were just some of the topics covered and the class are now very glad their mum's use washing powder instead of washing clothes the traditional Roman way.

A very special thank you to the bakery at Tesco Droylsden who baked and donated a selection of their 'Breads of the World' for the class to sample. The 'mediterranean bread' proved a massive hit. An even bigger thank you to the boy who thought the snacks were fantastic until he realised he was eating my dinner and handed it back.

All in all a smashing day.     

       

      We learnt how doctors found the arrow then we learnt how to take it out.

     

We checked hops and two types of barley but didn't brew any beer. We tasted olives and Roman sweets made from almonds.  We tried different types of rye and 'med' bread.

         We sparked flint to make fire, used steam to get clean and made a Tortoise

I had an amazing day when you came to our school.

My favourite part was when I was dressed up and pretended kill Owen.

I liked eating the bread with honey drizzled over it and when Tayyib didn't want to eat it I told him

It tasted like pizza but sweeter.

I really enjoyed the day.

I enjoyed your  visit at  year  3  my  best  part  was  when  I   put   the 

Bullet   in   the   playdough   because  it  was  to hard  to  find.  I    did   not  like the part when I  did  the   sparks  because  it  was  to hard. Ii really enjoyed the day from ikra .

I  really   enjoyed   Monday  it was the   best  day of the week.  The  best thing was pulling the buillet out of the pig. The quiz was good at the end.
